Employee Empowerment: How Bringing Out the Best in Employees will Bring Out the Best in Your Company

Gerry Cadorath, CEO, of Cadorath will facilitate a conversation with Alice Wheaton, a business coach and author.  This is a journey of how one man changed the rules of the traditional “Command and Control” game we call business. As a second-generation owner, he led a diverse group of companies from a local to an international presence through employee empowerment.  The stories shared will explain how a one- man business in Winnipeg grew to serve customers throughout the Aviation and Agriculture industries Globally. As an example, every Zamboni that clears ice on a rink, does so with a Cadorath auger!

Their discussion will explore the story of how an electroplating company, that began in 1954 and over the last 6 decades, has positioned themselves as partners with the largest OEM’s in their respective industries by changing the rules of the game.

The majority of challenges that were restricting growth and vision at Cadorath were resolved by removing just one word from their vocabulary…that word is Can’t!

Family Journey Story - Keeping the Family Legacy through Building Consensus

When a business is in the startup stage, the founder calls all the shots. In later generations, when multiple family members have ownership stakes, consensus building is imperative to keeping the family legacy going. But past or present family conflicts, and even differing positive opinions, can make consensus difficult to achieve.

Join the 2nd generation of the Schinkel family as they share their experiences on building consensus allowing their family legacy to thrive. Learn from their family’s history about what worked and did not work for them and apply it to your business family.

Justin and Evan Schinkel are second generation owner operators of Schinkel Propertieswhich is a property management, development and hotel company.  With 205 team members in 5 mid-scale hotels in Winnipeg and surrounding area. The company is on a growth trajectory with its eye on developing more hotel properties, real estate and growing property management.   They are making an impact on the Manitoba economy and tourism sector with the achievement of their many successful hotels.

With many years of experience in the hotel industry and in administration, they bring organizational focus and growth that is beneficial to the business. They are both serial entrepreneurs who have finally settled down in the family business.  They lead a second-generation family business that has grown from humble roots and now consists of five hotels, residential developments and commercial real estate.  The transition from one generation to the next has been relatively smooth despite some uncomfortable conversations and high emotional levels during decision-making.

The mission of the business and for the family is Genuine Care.  They do this by focusing on caring for the team members and actively giving back to the communities that they are lucky enough to work in.
