“What’s Fair? Compensation, Contribution, and Ownership in Family Enterprises”. Compensation in family enterprises is rarely just a financial decision. It is where questions of fairness, contribution, ownership, and expectation intersect. This Calgary HUB panel discussion will explore how families navigate compensation across different roles, generations, and ownership structures. Through the perspectives of governance, tax, and human resources professionals, the session will examine the distinction between compensation for effort, compensation for ownership, and recognition of stewardship. Rather than offering prescriptive answers, the discussion will surface the tensions, trade-offs, and decision frameworks that family enterprises and their advisors must navigate as they seek to align compensation practices with family values, business sustainability, and long-term continuity. The evening will include a moderated panel discussion, audience engagement, and networking.
